The Power of Confluence: When Multiple Signals Align

The best trades stack independent edges: level, trend, momentum, and volume. Learn a simple confluence scoring system to filter only A-setups.

Confluence = Independent Signals

Confluence isn’t about stacking five oscillators that say the same thing. It’s about combining independent evidence: higher timeframe trend, key level, momentum confirmation, and volume behavior. Each adds a separate reason for participants to act.

A Simple Confluence Score (0–10)

  • Trend (0–2): Above 50/200 MAs and HH/HLs?
  • Level (0–2): Strong S/R, multi-touch, HTF significance?
  • Momentum (0–2): RSI>50 or MACD cross/zero-line support?
  • Volume (0–2): Breakout surge or dry-up in base?
  • Volatility (0–2): ATR supportive (not too low/high)?

How to Use the Score

  • Only take trades ≥7/10.
  • Size up from base size only when ≥8/10 and market regime is favorable.
  • Journal the score vs outcomes to validate edge.

Case Study: 8/10 Confluence Breakout

Daily uptrend above 200 MA (2), retest of weekly S/R (2), RSI 55 and rising (2), volume surge on break (2), ATR slightly above baseline (0) = 8/10. Trade reaches 2R within three sessions; partials taken on the way.
